Motorcycle riders, don’t spend that Christmas bonus just yet! If you’ve spent tens or even hundreds of thousands of your hard earned cash on your dream motorcycle, wouldn’t it be wise to plunk down another Php 80k on proper rider training?
This coming February, the California Superbike School (CSS) will once again fly to Manila to educate the growing number of motorcycle riders in the country. This will be the third time in 13 years that the CSS instructors will be teaching advance riding skills to Filipinos. Just like last year, the Tuason Racing School, led by JP Tuason, is bringing back the notable instructors from the Australian branch of the popular riding school, with BMW Motorrad supporting the event.
The Superbike School teaches participants the exact skills of cornering
Founded by Keith Code back in 1980, the CSS has grown to be best motorcycle riding school in the world–having trained over 150,000 riders in more than 15 countries. CSS offers a bulletproof, step-by-step method for training riders in the exact skills of cornering motorcycles.
Code invented rider training devices such as the No Body Steering Bike which illustrates the necessity for counter-steering to be used, the Lean and Slide Bike Trainers that train not only good body positioning and visual skills but also allow riders to experience sliding the machine with much reduced possibility of crashing, and the Panic Braking Trainer that allows riders to experience front wheel lock up and learn how to recover from it.
The Superbike School will be held at the Clark International Speedway on February 6-8, with the classes being divided into four levels; Level one to four.
Classroom training is given to participants before the actual track exercises
Level I addresses the six most common errors riders, from novice to world-class racers, make and why. There will be a technical briefing for each participant including on and off track drills. As assigned coach for the day will observe and correct any difficulties a participant is having with each drill. Each rider will be coached as an individual and according to his or her skill level.
Level II tackle the problems of vision and riding and the drills CSS has developed to handle them. Once an understanding is achieved of what a motorcycle can and should do for a rider from the Level I drills, we move on step-by-step, to sharpen the visual skills. Level II is all about solutions to problems we face with our eyes.
The school’s visual drills put you in control of the road. We define our visual enemies and how to overcome them. Everyone knows that target fixation is dangerous. How bad is it? With logical, step-by-step procedures, your eyes become precision instruments. The results of Level 2 are amazing. Riders lose their claustrophobia in corners and gain the freedom to really use the roads they ride.
Level III addresses five more proactive technical points on riding. CSS thoroughly covers how a rider, interface with the bike, a rider’s body position choices and how these can affect the cornering process. All five of the exercises done in Level III are indispensable tools that will put a rider in control of any set of twisties that exists. The final exercise called Attack Angles will give the rider a whole new approach to cornering.
Level IV takes a completely different turn. CSS asks the rider what needs to be improved. Now that a rider has spent at least three levels with CSS and discussed and practiced over 15 different riding skills, CSS will design a program uniquely for that rider. At Level IV CSS takes a very focused look at the rider’s skills and tie up the loose ends to their satisfaction. Throughout the day, an instructor will coordinate with their on-track coach and give the rider one-on-one attention on his or her riding.
The February classes will be led by CSS Australasia founder Steve Brouggy, who will bring along a team of six professional instructors. The schedule for Levels I and II will be on February 6, with Levels III and IV held on February 7. The number of participants per day is limited to only 40.
The training fee for each day is set at PhP 80,000. However, TRS is giving a PhP10,000 discount for early registrants. The discount offer is only good until December 31, 2014.
