ZAMBOANGA CITY: The military forces are tracking down the members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) that fled following the capture of their camp in Basilan province.
The troops captured the ASG camp following a clash that resulted to the death of five Abu Sayyaf brigands Sunday in Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip, Basilan.
Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade commander Col. Rolando Joselito Bautista said the troops were conducting law enforcement operations when they clashed with a group of Abu Sayyaf brigands around 7:50 a.m. Sunday in Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip.
Bautista said there was no casualty on the side of the government forces.
He said the captured Abu Sayyaf camp consisting of 10 nipa huts with fortified trenches and foxholes could accommodate more or less 50 people.
Recovered from the captured camp were solar charger, wet cell battery, a shotgun with two ammunition, a 40 millimeter high explosive devise ammunition and subversive documents.
He said they will continue to pursue the Abu Sayyaf brigands who are involved in various forms of criminalities in the province.
The law enforcement operation against the brigands started after the lawless group killed in an ambush five soldiers more than three weeks ago in the municipality of Sumisip.
The soldiers were providing security to the workers of a Saudi-funded road concreting project when the Abu Sayyaf brigands ambushed them. PNA
