Extraordinary business leaders who have shown outstanding achievements for their organizations and helped in the development of the country were recognized by the prestigious Asia CEO Awards held at the Solaire Resort and Casino on Wednesday night.
With the theme “Emerging Asia,” the Asia CEO Awards honored business leaders who demonstrated good leadership in various industries in the country.
“It’s always good to celebrate excellence and success, and of course, to recognize the people to produce a kind of track record, as well as to serve as good role models to our youth,” Manuel Pangilinan, chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), said on the sidelines of the event.
“The companies tonight are deserving, [and are] being recognized.”
Award presentations were made by SPi Global, Smart Communications, SHORE Solutions, Security Bank, PLDT Alpha Enterprise, Philippine Airlines, Oracle, NEC, Meralco, KPMG, Jones Lang LaSalle, FirstCarbon Solutions, Capital One, among others.
Business tycoon Henry Sy Sr. topped this year’s awardees with a ‘CEO Lifetime Contributor of the Year’ recognition for the private sector for his determination and dedication in driving the Philippine economy toward development.
The award was accepted by the tycoon’s son, Hans Sy, who said that his father “truly deserves this recognition.”
For the public sector, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. bagged the same distinction for pushing growth in the county’s tourism industry through his department’s “It’s more Fun in the Philippines” program.
The Philippine Air Lines (PAL) Hospitality Destination of the Year award was bagged by Palawan’s El Nido Resorts.
Other winners included Envirosite Corp. (ORACLE Technology Company of the Year); Philex Mining Corp. (Security Bank Corporate Governance Company of the Year); PJ Lhuillier (Capital One CSR Company of the year) for its Corporate Social Responsibility programs on environmental protection and awareness; San Carlos Solar Energy (First Carbon Solutions Green Company of the Year); KMC MAG Group Philippines Managing Director Michael McCullough (SPi Global Young Leader of the Year); and Generika Inc. (SURE Solutions Best Innovative Company of the Year), for its Medpadala electronic gift checks.
Also receiving awards were Fluor Daniel Management Systems (NEC Quality Company of the Year), Lars Witting of Regus Philippines (Jones Lang La Salle Expatriate Executive of the Year), First Metro Investment Corp. President Roberto Dispo (Smart Enterprise Global Filipino Executive of the Year), Smart Communications (Meralco Top Employer of the Year) and SM Prime Holdings (KPMG Executive Leadership Team).
“We Filipinos deserve this [recognition], we deserve to show the world that we are first class,” Rebecca Bustamante, President and CEO of Asia CEO, told The Manila Times.
In line with the ASEAN integration in 2015, Bustamante said they are also planning to extend the CEO Awards to other Southeast Asian countries.
“In 2015, we are opening the nominations to the Asean because of this integration, we are working as one now,” she said.
For his part, Richard Mills, Asia CEO Chairman said: “The winners are fantastic organizations doing great work and great contributions to the country.”
