SEVEN former officials of Lapuyan town in Zamboanga del Sur were acquitted of graft charges by the Sandiganbayan after the prosecution failed to prove the shortage of roofing materials used for the rehabilitation of the Lapuyan public market 25 years ago. Charged with graft were then Mayor Cesar Sulong, treasurer Yoland Galeza and her assistant Jesus Robillos, planning and development coordinator Arno Madrigal, government operation officer Victor Apostol, senior revenue collection officer Lourdes Lampayan and inspection coordinating officer Felix Monton. The decision, which was penned by Fifth Division Associate Justice Ma. Theresa Dolores Gomez-Estoesta and concurred in by Fifth Division Chairman and Associate Justice Roland Jurado and Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo, was promulgated on October 28.
