Armed Forces of the Philippines chief-of-staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang on Tuesday ordered the relief of AFP Medical Center head Brig. Gen. Normando Sta. Ana in connection with the alleged Php80-million procurement mess involving the military facility.
This was announced by AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc Tuesday.
The relief order stemmed from the AFP’s policy to keep the ongoing investigation transparent and impartial.
The Php80-million procurement irregularities was brought to the attention of the Office of the Ombudsman and Catapang through an anonymous and unsigned letter and the social media last Sept. 5
Allegedly, the procurement of medicines and medical equipment proceeded without any bidding.
Also undergoing investigation were Lt. Col. Florencio Capulong, special disbursing officer; Major Neil Bugarin, chief of the management and fiscal office; and Col. Rogelio Del Rio, acting assistant chief of staff for logistics.
As this develops, Cabunoc urged the anonymous complainant to surface and identify himself in the interest of fairness to the accused officers. PNA
