AFTER undergoing intensive repair, the Magallanes interchange will have its soft reopening today but only for light vehicles.
Niomie Recio, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic engineering center head, on Sunday said the interchange will be opened to light vehicles at 5 a.m.
Recio explained that the decision to open the interchange exclusively for light vehicles is to give the newly repaired portion ample time for the curing period.
Trucks and other heavy vehicles shall be allowed to pass Magallanes on Wednesday. For the meantime, heavy vehicles will continue to use the service road.
“We do not want early deterioration of repaired road because of overloading which may have damaging effects on the interchange,” Recio told the agency’s radio program on Sunday.
The southbound Magallanes flyover along South Super Highway from Manila to Alabang, Muntinlupa City (Metro Manila) was closed for 10 days to give way to its rehabilitation.
