SENATOR Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada has no problems adjusting to his new “home,” perhaps because it is not the first time he is detained there.
The Philippine National Philippine (PNP) spokesman, Chief Supt. Rueben Theodore Sindac, on Tuesday said the senator, who surrendered on Monday, quickly adapted to his new environment and had no complaints.
Estrada was locked up at the PNP’s Custodial Center after the Sandiganbayan issued a commitment order for him.
“He slept around 1 a.m. He is a night owl. He woke up late and Bong [Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr.] woke up much earlier than him. Estrada woke up around 7:30 a.m.,” Sindac told reporters in a news briefing.
The police official said the two senators ate breakfast together. They had hotdogs and eggs and for lunch, tinola (chicken soup with green papaya and chili leaves) and rice.
But according to Sindac, the two lawmakers barely touched their meal because they had “loads” of foods sent by friends and family members.
The senators had no visitors on Tuesday.
Sindac said visitors are allowed only on Thursdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays are for conjugal visits.
“In between those days, a relative will have to ask for a permit if the visit is urgent,” he added.
Any special request from the two senators will have to be forwarded to the Sandiganbayan, which had charged them for plunder and graft in connection with the P10-billion pork barrel scam.
The PNP spokesman said the cells of the two senators are only locked at night.
