Persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens who want to enlist as voters can opt for satellite registration in their villages instead of going to local offices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The handicapped and the elderly, Comelec Commissioner Grace Padaca said on Thursday, need only to monitor the schedule of the poll body’s satellite registration in their villages.

Padaca, a polio survivor, heads the committee for PWDs of the Comelec.

Section 5 of Comelec Resolution 9853 provides that the poll body should have at least one satellite registration for every barangay (village) in the country.

It also provides that the satellite registration shall be conducted either in barangay halls, public/private schools, commercial establishments and other public places within the city/municipality.

Padaca said they had posted the schedule for Barangay Satellite Registration in their offices.

“Our local Comelec [offices] in the whole Philippines have been posting their schedules for Barangay Satellite Registration in their offices,” she added.

The Comelec en banc noted that express lanes should be established during the registration for the exclusive use of the PWDs and senior citizens as well as pregnant applicants.

Registration for the 2016 national and local elections began on May 6 and will last until October 31, 2015.
