Chiefs subdue Pirates, 68-60

THE Arellano University Chiefs clipped the Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates 68-60, on Saturday in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.

Rookie Jiovani Jalalon led the Pirates’ onslaught with 13 points and four rebounds to barge into the win column creating a four-way tie at the second spot with San Beda, San Sebastian and Lyceum. All four squads, each with 1-1 win-loss record are just a game behind leader Jose Rizal University, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and Letran.

The Letran Knights were still playing against Emilio Aguinaldo College at press time.

Coach Koy Banal expressed elation over the victory of the Chiefs that suffered a heartbreaking 76-78 setback to the San Sebastian Stags on Thursday. Banal said he is expecting a tight race in first round of the elimination phase.
